Members Companies of the Overseas Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Foreign Investors (OICCI) reaffirmed their commitment to improving all aspects of Pakistani society. Carrying on the trend from last year, OCCI Member companies investments in CSR and sustainable projects amounted to PKR 14.5 billion, press release from OCCI shared the Highlights from the OICCI Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report 2020-2021
About 100 prominent international investors and OICCI members worked with the government to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and implement a range of corporate social responsibility initiatives that benefit marginalized communities across the country. OICCI members’ CSR activities include more than just financial support. but also the ingenuity and time of the staff to develop sustainable and long term projects across Pakistan. With a core commitment to empower disadvantaged groups in society through a variety of methods.
Ghiyas Khan, President of OICCI, praised the high commitment of OICCI members to inspire corporate sectors to invest in communities. providing the latest technology and skills to be passed on to local residents.
“OICCI members continue to strengthen their CSR structures through active engagement between the company and all stakeholders in society. This has resulted in exemplary CSR initiatives and sustainable development practices in line with the broader UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). A growing community,” Geass added.
OICCI Vice President Amir Paracha emphasized that the 2020-2021 CSR Annual Report reflects the views of approximately half of the OICCI members who share their CSR activities. The total contribution of CSR for this year is 11 billion Pakistani Rupees. This benefits approximately 34 million direct beneficiaries across the country. OICCI members and their colleagues have dedicated around 1.4 million hours of work to 160 social and development organizations across Pakistan. The geographic distribution of CSR activities was 31% in Sindh, 27% in Punjab, 15% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13% in Balochistan, 8% in Gilgit-Baltistan and 6% in Azad Kashmir.
COVID-19 continues to be a challenge for businesses around the world. Our members have shown great leadership and resilience in the fight against COVID-19. During the year, 90% of our members donated around PKR 3.5 billion to fight this disease.
Environmental protection is one area that has received more and more attention in recent years. 69% of our participating members have completed environmental work. and spent about 1.5 billion Pakistani Rupees on environmental protection.
In particular, according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, 79% of the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Iraq are focused on health and well-being. and actively supports health and nutrition related initiatives through donations to prestigious hospitals, medical camps and health awareness campaigns. In addition, 73% of members participate in quality education through funding for primary and secondary education institutions, scholarships and various professional skills. development projects. Gender equality is also in the spotlight. More than half of its members actively support women’s empowerment activities and support the OIC Women’s Program in Iraq. which has been operating since 2017
OICCI is a consortium of Pakistan’s top 200 foreign investors from 35 countries who, along with the largest foreign investors, are also the biggest contributors to Pakistan’s economy.
