Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin urged US companies to take advantage of the wide opportunities offered by special economic zones (SEZs) in Pakistan.

He stated this, speaking at a meeting held by the American-Pakistani Business Council (USPBC) in Washington. The meeting was attended by representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce, large US companies, the head of the State Bank of Pakistan Raza Baqir, the Minister of Finance and the Pakistani Ambassador to the United States.

The finance minister confirmed that the government is taking a number of initiatives to attract foreign investment to the country. For this, all devices have been expanded and all obstacles have been removed.

In his closing remarks, the finance minister said the government is firmly committed to creating an enabling environment for foreign investors and businessmen.

He also urged American companies to take advantage of the wide opportunities offered by special economic zones (SEZs) and assured them that they would receive full support and everything they need in this regard.

He also met with World Bank Vice President for South Asia Hartwig Schafer and his team at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington. At the meeting, he said the government is fully committed to implementing structural reforms, protecting social spending and strengthening social safety nets to protect vulnerable groups in society.

The meeting was also virtually attended by Federal Minister of Energy Muhammad Hammad Azhar and Federal Minister of Economy Omar Ayub Khan and their team. The meeting was also attended by Raza Baqir, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Ambassador Asad Majid Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and senior officials.
